Halloween is just around the corner, and picking a costume can often be a daunting task. Choosing the perfect costume can be stressful, so I came up with some ideas to, hopefully, ease the process. Whether you want a duo, group, or unique individual costume, I’ve thought of it all. All of the costumes listed fit the school’s guidelines for Halloween costumes, which must comply with the Flintridge Prep Honor Code: no part of the costume should resemble a weapon, no masks, and your costume should not prevent you from participating in regular classroom activities.
Duo ideas
- Curious George and Man in the Yellow Hat – Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat is a super cute and nostalgic idea for a pair of friends. George’s monkey costume is very simple and nostalgic, and all you need is brown clothes, monkey ears, and a tail. For the Man in the Yellow Hat you’ll need a bright yellow hat and jacket with khaki pants.
- Gru and Vector – Gru and Vector are villainous rivals but also a dynamic duo! For Gru’s costume, you’ll need a black coat, gray scarf, and if you really want to go the extra mile, a bald wig and pointy nose. For Vector, you’ll need his iconic orange tracksuit, thick rimmed glasses, and a bowl cut wig. This costume is very creative and funny, which makes it the perfect costume for people who want an over the top costume.
- Kermit and Miss Piggy – Kermit and Miss Piggy are the perfect his and hers costume. Kermit’s costume can be as simple as a green outfit and a collar piece to replicate his signature look. Miss Piggy can either wear a pink dress or pink pants with a pink top and, of course, a blonde wig. For Miss Piggy, the more dramatic the outfit, the better.
Group
- Party Animals – For this costume, each member of the group would dress as different animals. You could then add a party hat. It is simple to execute, yet creative, which makes it a super fun costume!
- Pink Ladies – The Pink Ladies are a timeless Grease girl group that never goes out of style. To pull this costume off, you will need matching Pink Ladies satin jackets, black leggings or skirts, and black glasses. In addition to the outfit, you can do 50’s hairstyles to commit to the look.
- Frat Boys- Dressing as Frat Boy is very minimal prep but can include so many people.College hoodies, khaki pants, pit vipers, backwards caps, Oxford shirts and polo shirts will all work for this costume. It is a very comfy costume, and it can work even if half of the group forgets to dress up!
Last minute/diy
- Adam Sandler – Adam Sandler is a super unique idea, yet very easy to pull off at the last minute. All that you need is a baggy t-shirt, baggy or basketball shorts, and sneakers. For this costume, you can just raid your dad or brothers closet, and you’re done!
- Wolf of Wall Street – In order to dress like Jordan Belfort, you will need a suit, white dress shirt, dress shoes/loafers, and a tie. Accessories that you include in the costume could be fake money as well as sunglasses. Overall, this idea is very original and easy to pull off.
- Need money for Porsche (Brad Pitt) – This costume is the easiest on the list to make. All that you need is a white shirt, and you’ll need to write, “NEED MONEY FOR PORSCHE” on it—that’s it! This costume is extremely original but also great for a last minute resort.
- I’m Just a Bill – My last DIY idea is the Bill from the School House Rock video. To dress up as the bill you will need a white outfit, which is either a dress or white pants and a white shirt. Then, you can add a red sash, and make a circle that says Bill on it. This idea is educational, creative, and will definitely impress your history teacher!
Unique
- Paddington – Paddington is a recognizable and nostalgic costume. For the costume you will need a blue duffle coat, a red bucket hat, and yellow rain boots.
- Pillsbury Doughboy – The Pillsbury Doughboy costume is not only a really funny costume, but a very original one. To complete the look you should wear all white with a chef-style hat and a blue ribbon. Another interpretation is that you can buy a blow up, and really commit to the idea.
- Violet from Willy Wonka – Go as Violet after she chews the gum that turns her purple. You will want to wear a purple tracksuit, a yellow bob wig, and chewing gum. On top of that, you can add some purple eye shadow to your nose, or if you want the full effect, you can paint more of your body purple!
- Ferris Bueller and Cameron – Ferris Bueller and Cameron are an iconic duo, but are also a unique halloween costume. For Ferris you can wear a white t-shirt, a leather jacket, and some khaki pants. For Cameron, you can wear his iconic Red Wings hockey jersey and khaki pants.
Trendy
- Beanie Boo – Beanie Boos are super cute and will also make a super cute costume. You can wear whatever you want underneath as a costume, for example a skirt and shirt with the same color, or you could also wear a onesie. On top of that you can add a jumbo TY heart tag, which completes the Beanie Boo look.
- Wizard of Oz – Wizard of Oz characters are always classic costumes, but they are also really easy, and every character in it is cute. You can have Dorothy, Galinda, The Tin Man, Scarecrow, Toto, the Lion, and Elphaba. These costumes are especially relevant this year because Wicked: For Good releases less than a month after Halloween.
- Power Puff Girls – The Power Puff girls are nostalgic costumes, reminiscent of y2k. These costumes are very cute for a duo as each person could be Blossom, Bubbles, or Buttercup. You can do dresses with black belts, and make sure that the hair styles match what each of the girls wear in the show.
- Bruno Mars – Dressing as Bruno Mars is such an iconic costume and you can interpret it in so many different ways. One way that you can do it is by wearing his red silk pajamas, with a chain, cap, and sunglasses. You could also wear a fedora, which he is best known for.
